Eating Disorders

Herbal medicine and naturopathy have long been associated with helping people manage their eating disorder. While herbal remedies alone are not a cure for an eating disorder, they can be used in combination with other therapies to help individuals better cope. Herbal medicines may improve symptoms of depression and anxiety that can be associated with an eating disorder, and some herbs can also reduce appetite or act as laxatives. Examples of herbs used in the treatment of eating disorders include ginger, chamomile, valerian root, licorice root and peppermint. It is important to remember that herbal treatments should always be discussed with a medical professional before taking them as different combinations of herbs can lead to dangerous side effects or interactions.
