Matcha contains an amino acid called L-theanine, which alters and levels the effects of the caffeine in matcha. This means you can feel the effects of matcha for a few more hours than if you drank regular coffee. L-theanine is often known to provide relaxed alertness for an average of 6-8 hours without causing drowsiness and even improves mood and maintains normal sleep.
Focus & Skin
Matcha is believed to provide focus and concentration primarily due to its unique combination of caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine, which work together to create a synergistic effect on the brain. L-theanine significantly increases activity in the brain’s alpha frequency band, indicating that it relaxes the mind without inducing drowsiness. Lion’s Mane, within the DIRTEA matcha blend, may also contribute to supporting brain health.
Matcha is high in antioxidants, particularly catechins like epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which may help protect the skin from free radical damage caused by UV rays, pollution, smoking and other environmental factors. Free radicals can cause early signs of ageing, wrinkles, and fine lines, but antioxidants can counteract this and prevent damage to the skin. The Tremella extract within our DIRTEA Matcha Super Blend may also contribute to hydrated, plump, glowing skin!
History
The cultivation and consumption of tea originated in China over 2,000 years ago during the Han Dynasty (206 BCE to 220 CE). Initially, tea leaves were used to brew loose-leaf tea. During the Tang Dynasty (618 to 907 CE), a powdered tea known as “lu cha” was developed. However, matcha gained popularity during the Song Dynasty, which ruled from (960 to 1279 CE). Eisai, a Japanese Buddhist priest who had spent most of his time studying Buddhism in China, returned to Japan in 1191. He popularised green tea and the Zen Buddhist methods of preparing powdered green tea in Japan. For centuries, Japan has used matcha in tea ceremonies to enhance focus while calming the body and mind.
